A prayer to share

St. Augustine's Night Prayer

Watch, dear Lord, with those who
wake or watch or weep tonight,
and give your angels charge over
those who sleep.
Tend your sick ones, O Lord Jesus
Christ,
rest your weary ones,
bless your dying ones,
soothe your suffering ones,
shield your joyous ones,
and all for your love's sake,
Amen.

Ten Reasons

This is the blog, that led to the link...

Said goodbye this past week
to a friend who decided to
relocate and eventually build
her dream home.
Another friend and I purchased
a copy of pianist Jacqueline Chew's
CD: "Olivier Messiaen: Vingt Regards
sur l'Enfant-Jesus," for her. Read
Ms. Chew's interview after following
a link on Doctor Thursday's blog,
"GKC's Favourite," link at right.
Our friend is a pianist also, and
after searching through Dr. T's
archives, we found the link to
the interview so she could read
for herself the story of how Ms.
Chew came to do this particular
work. Another musician friend
recommended CD Baby, link to
the right, where we finally found
the CD we sought, pictured above.

Magnificent masterpiece

This is my favorite-
Michaelangelo's magnificent
work of art- The Pieta. I
just got mine framed...
and it's the background
for my desktop. Am going
to try and do a sketch of
it- my apologies in advance
to Mr. Buonarroti.

A Creation [?]

Nancy Brown over at Flying Stars
posted a question concerning
Genesis' account of creation:

"How could the earth come
before the sun?"

I am not a Bible scholar, or a
scientist, so I struggled with the
question and answer.

Read it here...

http://mrsnancybrown.blogspot.com/

if you are familiar with the subject.

Highly recommended!

Dear [crickets],

If you have the chance,
check out EWTN at 7:20am
(Eastern time) or at 3:30pm.
For ten minutes, twice daily,
we are treated to "Reflections
with Fr. Leo Clifford."
I can't say enough about Fr. Leo's
daily offerings- my husband
will say "Watching your boy-
friend again?"
Mmm-hmmm...

And listening to him, too!

i love this site...

Added Spirit Daily's link
to the right. Figured out
how to link, but can't figure
out fonts. Oh well, liked their
article,

"Get off Treadmill
of Worry and See God
Everywhere."

If I were actually on a
treadmill when I worried,
too much weight would be
one less worry...

From Priests for Life

An excerpt from Father Frank Pavone's
8/15/05 newsletter...

"Dear Friends,

... a few updates:

1. This Thursday August 18 is a special
anniversary. On that day, seven years ago,
I had the pleasure of receiving Norma
McCorvey (the former "Jane Roe"of the
Roe vs. Wade decision) into the Catholic
Church. She had become pro-life and
been baptized a Christian three years
earlier by my friend Rev. Flip Benham.
She came through a long journey from
the days of her involvement with abortion.
If you would like to send her a personal
note of congratulations, I'll be happy to
give it to her personally. Just email it to
me at letters@priestsforlife.org You can
learn more about Norma at (www.priests)forlife.org/testimony/normamaster.htm
and you can order the book that tells the
story of her journey, "Won by Love" from
us at orders@priestsforlife.org

2. Would your pastor be willing to put
our four-page pro-life insert "You Can Save
Someone's Life Today" in your parish
bulletin? We are offering him as many
copies as he needs, free of charge. This
would be great for Respect Life Sunday
in October, or anytime of year. Preview
the insert at www.priestsforlife.org/bulletin
and order it at orders@priestsforlife.org ..."

When I was a ninth-grader, I took a
petition from Right-to-Life to my classes
for students and teachers to sign. It was
1972-73. I got a lecture from my math
teacher about not imposing my opinion on
others. The french teacher let us discuss
the issue, where my classmates informed
me that no one had the right to tell them
what to do with their bodies- (we were
FOURTEEN!!!) My classmates were already
well-versed in the doctrine of bs the
culture of death brainwashed them with,
pardon my french. A year before, we had
to have parental permission to take the
health class which informed us that we
did NOT need parental permission to
receive birth control due to doctor/patient
confidentiality. We were THIRTEEN at
the time!!! We were being taught to
undermine our parents' authority,
for WHAT?!!! Teachers usually said,
"You wouldn't be allowed to do that at
home," and now were telling us we could
go behind our parents' backs! The teachers
wouldn't have allowed us to be THAT
disrespectful to THEM, "Sir, you have no
right to impose your homework on me,
so I chose not to do it."
I got two signatures out of the whole school.
(My french teacher remembered- she hadn't
said much that day, but months later wrote
in my yearbook, "To the student who had
the courage to stand by her convictions...")

TWO SIGNATURES!!!

Check out Dawn Patrol, link at right.
She posts a great deal about the information
available these days, especially on the
internet, that has continued to brainwash
teens for decades. And how OUR TAX
DOLLARS CONTINUE TO SUPPORT these
ABOMINATIONS :(!!!

God bless those who work to end these
lies.
God help those who have perpetuated
and fallen for them...

Amen.

Dizzy & Dean

For many years I have had an interest in photos
and various works of art which portray James
Dean. He fascinates me- I think it has something
to do with the sense of remoteness that he conveys-
to me, anyway. Someday, I will tackle and try
to capture him on my drawing pad.
Years ago, I read an article that said that Liz
Sheridan, the actress that played Jerry Seinfeld's
mom on his show, dated James Dean in the early
fifties and was writing an autobiography about their
years together. I couldn't wait. Well, I finally got
my hands on a copy- have not finished it yet,
but will say, it's interesting reading. And, have
found out that Mr. Dean enjoyed playing the recorder,
which is one of my favorite things to do, and has
been since we were instructed to get one in the
seventh grade for chorus. Have yet to see how his
recorder playing pans out- but I know that mine has
been received over the years with mixed reviews.
Some love it, some are pained to hear it.
Will say, it is something I (mercifully) do privately,
for the pure enjoyment of mastering a piece of
music I've set my mind to. And, altho I sing harmony
in the church choir, I've always basically stuck to
the melody on the recorder. Every once in a while,
tho, I'll be playing the melody, while the harmony is
struggling to get out :)
Many thanks to Liz Sheridan, whose nickname is
Dizzy, for sharing this time of her life in her book,
"dizzy & jimmy: My Life with James Dean- a love story,"
with us.

Beautiful work

By a very talented artist named Ylli, whose
work is available on ebay. If interested, when
checking out ebay, type in "ylli pope" in the
category, "art"... know a few of his very happy
customers.
To view his entire picture gallery, including his
prints of JPII, type in "ylli"- am thinking of having
him do portraits of my kids, and maybe a collage
of some of my favorite religious art.

Hefty Book Meme

Got tagged by Joe from Chesterton and Friends,
(link at right)- who was tagged by blog host
Eric Scheske for a hefty book meme.

rules:
1. Name your three biggest non-reference books (excluding the Bible and text books).
2. Name your three biggest reference books.
3. Tag three others.By “biggest,” we’re not looking for number of words. We’re looking for weight. Heft. Something you’d drop on invaders while defending a castle.

non-ref:
Think The Complete Works of Saint Thomas Aquinas,
Volumes 1 & 2, separate or combined are pretty
hefty.
A bio on Mozart weighs a ton.
Maybe an oversize book on comedians that I have-
but it may just be big diameter-wise, not weight-
wise- altho it would get the job done.

ref:
Harvard Dictionary of Music, but I think I'd throw a
bunch of smaller ones first.
A French-English Dictionary.
A Writer's Handbook.

Thanks for asking, Joe. Now, did you say tackle, or tag?

Faves Raves

Ok, do we have to pick a font everytime we post?
Pardon me, did I say that out loud?
Anyway, some of my favorites, who I don't know how
http://mrsnancybrown.blogspot.com/ (Flying Stars)
to link to otherwise, and can't control where it's at in
my post-
and also... http://francesblogg.blogspot.com/
(GKC's Favourite) ok... that was better-

Maybe I should stop at the top two, for now.

:)!!!
